Just last Friday, we remembered the day we can never forget – 9/11. More than the horror of that day, we must remember the state of mind. That of the terrorists was hate and pure evil. I can only imagine what went through the minds of all those who were on the doomed flights, trapped in the twin towers, on the west side of the Pentagon and the ones who fought the hijackers on the fourth plane headed for D.C. But, that’s not all. Hundreds of police and firefighters died trying to save others and the ones who witnessed first-hand can never un-see the tragedy. No doubt the tragedy continues for all who lost loved ones that day. Now I want you to think back about how you felt that day. Were you sad and angry to see the devastation by the terrorists?
I’m sure all would say “yes.” Fast-forward to today. Do you feel the same about the ones within our country who tear down monuments, burn flags, destroy our cities, peoples’ businesses, etc.?? Sadly, I would venture to say there’s as much hate within our country as there was coming from the terrorists 19 years ago. It’s a shame to see how slanderous politicians can be but it’s even worse to see how vindictive people have become.
My point is this: it shouldn’t take something as extreme and awful as 9/11 to unite us. I do not mean agreeing on everything or even most things, BUT there has to be more diplomatic than malicious intent. That can only come with faith. If we pay full attention to our own actions instead of judging others, there is promise for the future.
Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37 (ESV)
Amen
I agree. I don’t know when it became acceptable to have a violent and destructive response to not getting your way. We are a great nation under God, but we have some work to do to stop the terrorism here today.
