I grew up in a family with LOTS of musical talent. Nana played the piano, Poppy played the organ and accordion, and Daddy plays all three!! It’s one thing to be able to read music but, playing by ear amazes me. Daddy has that talent and an awesome style that can bring people together to listen and sing. My sister, Pam can do that, too. Mom liked for me to “serenade” her while she cooked dinner but I didn’t really play for anyone else. I wanted to play outside instead!
When Talia was a toddler, she was fascinated by the piano and loved to hear Papa play. She was about 7 years old when she wanted me to teach her. Sadly, I hadn’t practiced or played in a very long time but I was able to talk her into taking lessons with me. That was really fun and we realized that special talent was in her, too! We have a gorgeous baby grand (a very generous gift from Nana and Papa,) in our living room that’s only occasionally played by Talia or Daddy when they visit. I’ve been thinking about learning again – maybe 3rd time’s the charm?!?
I need music every day! It’s as vital as food to me but the taste is greater and more diverse. Of all the music genres, the only ones I dislike are punk, funk, folk and heavy metal. As I said in my last post, Frank Sinatra is my all-time favorite but I really love country music, too. The songs tell a story. I grew up with musicals like Meet Me in Saint Louis, Easter Parade, Show Boat, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly, Mary Poppins, Grease, White Christmas and more! The music makes the story.
There’s music for every mood and occasion; everything from lullabies to dancing. It’s an integral part of our culture, worship, and daily routines. Take time to listen, sing and be inspired to tell your own stories…
“speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” Ephesians 5:19
I think you should start back playing the piano
The first comment was from my phone and was too brief to say what I wanted to. So the rest of the comment.
I would love it if you started back learning the piano and fill our home with live music. I love when you sing along to songs at home or while we are driving, it makes me smile, well you already knew that. But I see that it always puts a happy smile on your face also.
I loved taking piano lessons together!! I miss playing and learning new songs. You definitely should! 😁
