Before we had the internet, we were limited in ways to keep in touch or get to know people far away. Today with email, facebook, Instagram, blogs and the like, we can be part of a group or make a new ‘friend’ without geographical constraints. Whether it’s family, cultural, work or social ties; close-knit groups provide support, encouragement, fellowship, learning opportunities and focus not available outside the group.
I’ve Googled a lot as I really needed help getting my blog started and I found Suzi from Start A Mom Blog. After signing up for her free blog plan course, I got an email from Suzi, “Hi, can we be friends?”. I replied to her email to tell her why I wanted to start a blog and to see if I would actually get a personal response. I am so happy to say that I did and there was nothing generic about it! Since then, I have watched her tutorials and I love how genuine she is. She is inspiring, smart and funny! I just hope I can have the positive impact with my blog that she’s having with hers. And, I’d really like to actually meet Suzi one of these days!
I have to be honest and tell you that my opinion of social media has changed a lot. I didn’t understand keeping in touch online until we had loved ones too far away to see regularly. It was so much easier to send photos and share all kinds of things instantly! The issue I had was people using the term “friend” too loosely. When one of my sisters said that she and her husband had 500+ friends, I thought that was one of the most ridiculous things I’d ever heard! I believe you’re very blessed if you have true friends you can count on one hand.
Now back to where I started without semantics. For many years now, I have learned of great things people have been able to accomplish through the internet and social media. Whether it’s raising money for worthy causes, giving moral support to those in need, education and making better choices; there’s a lot of good out there! My hope is to be a notable part of that and build a group with unshakable faith.
Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established. Proverbs 15:22
God bless you today, through this Christmas season and always!
